Canadian Gypsy
Peterborough, Ontario

Legions seem to be going through a very bad time right now. Membership is down and attendance is sporadic. Tributes and musical events do however tend to increase attendance, in many cases, dramatically, especially during economic downturns. We realize that any event a Legion is overseeing should be capable of making money for the Legion and their programs. It is to this end that we are offer a flat rate for 4 hours ($75 per hour for additional hours).

NO travel expenses, NO percentages of the bar sales, NO percentage of cover charges or admission fees. Any revenues generated by the Legion’s bar, admission or cover charges for the event, is to the Legion’s benefit, alone.

The Services and Entertainment That We Offer

Sometimes people just want to sit and listen, other times they want to dance and then there are times when they just want to sing. We can roll all three into one show ;-)

Tribute Shows

These are made up of one to three tributes, Johnny Cash/June Carter, Shania Twang, Stevie Nix and/or Dolly. Each act is between 30 minutes and 1 hour long. The singing is generally interspersed with dance music based on the type and age of the patrons. In total, there might be from 1 hour to 2-1/2 hours of singing with 3 to 1-1/2 hours of dance music to make a 4 hour show. We can also add in live tribute style dance-able songs by David Wilcox, the Blues Brothers, David Bowie, Billy Idol and others. The singing portion of the show is arranged with primarily dance music and top hits so that patrons don’t have to wait for a ‘dance music’ intermission. The main demographic for a tribute show is between 30 and 80 years of age.

Dance Music

We can DJ a 4 hour (or more) show and have at our disposal music from the 40's right through to present day. These types of shows are generally very workable for either patrons under 30 or over 50.

Karaoke Shows

At present we have 11,500 legal song titles from the 40's through to present day. We can host a normal 4 hour night show, matinee (we have done these during meat draws and other legion functions) or provide Karaoke competitions. Sometimes, we draw names from all the singers in one night and give away a couple of $30 karaoke CD’s (you can also request this option).

The demographic for karaoke is from about 14 to 80 years of age, but out of necessity you must have a reasonable number of singers in your patron group for this kind of show to be viable. We have found that 10 to 20 singers with a total patron volume of about 60 to 100 (or more) works the best, since normally a KJ plays about 15 to 18 songs per hour and singers like to step up twice or more in a night.

Jam Sessions

Since we have all the equipment, 8 mics and floor recording, we can provide hosting for these events.

Recording

We can record singers “live off the floor” at karaoke shows using a laptop system or we can provide 10/20 multi-track hard drive recording using our studio equipment mounted in the RV. We can record 16/24 bit from 44.1khz to 192khz, can master and prepare artists work for CD or radio presentation.
